Because HBO has nothing we want to watch while we wait for The Sopranos, because we’re not that desperate, and because DirecTV makes changing packages simplicity itself, we’ve cancelled our subscription, thereby reducing our monthly costs from $67 to $48, before taxes.

Heh. We did the same thing — switched from Comcast’s extended service to basic service. I was going to cancel cable TV entirely (and keep the broadband connection), but it turns out that basic service is $11 and you lose a $15 discount on broadband if you drop TV service. Thus they’re paying me $4 to keep my TV hooked up…
