But it's not a thorough gutting

The thing about listening to the radio is that when you shout back at them, they can't hear you. I suppose that's best. I was listening to NPR's All Things Considered.

New laws have been enacted, and old laws reinterpreted, to help authorities deal with the threat of terrorism at home and abroad. But the Bush administration has shied away from altering one area: the nation's gun laws.

That's one way to put it. Another would be to say that the only one of the Bill of Rights that isn't up for trampling is the Second.

The thrust of the piece is that changes aren't being made to the gun regulations that might assist in the War on Terrorism, and briefly notes some inconsistency in the Attorney General's stance on this issue. Frankly, if the NRA is the limiting factor on this administration's behavior, then we should all become NRA members.
