Changing the Character of the Town

An article in The Recorder reports that the Highland County Planning Commission rezoned a property in Monterey, Virginia, from residential to business, in order to make way for a Dollar General store.

Here is a somewhat current photograph of Monterey, and an undated earlier image from a sheep drive. Here's what it looks like from above, at Yahoo Maps, and in a a walking tour map. We lived at location 30 on the tour map, the See House, when my father was the pastor to the Monterey Group Presbyterian Churches.

I think the proposed building will be a blight.
