What Does an Internet Service Provider Sell?

Phil Windley points to Rethinking Authentication, by Glenbrook Partners' Carol Benson. She says that some authenticators will discover they have always been 'identity providers', and that [t]he big winners here are the financial institutions and telecommunications providers.

A typical ISP provides a number of services, usually including mail, storage, and access to the Internet. Their customers buy access.
